Who can Apply.
The Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act of 1956 provides that certain specific
persons who are not born on Irish soil may claim Irish citizenship by descent and
ancestry. Those who are eligible include:
- The grandchild of an Irish-born citizen.
- The children of Irish citizen's who obtained citizenship through prior registration.
- The children of a naturalized Irish citizen.
Other categories may also be entitled to hold an Irish passport, within some
limitations, these include,
- The great-grandchildren of an Irish-born citizen.
- The children of a citizen who obtained Irish citizenship through post-nuptial
declaration.
Advantages of holding an Irish Passport.
- You can live and work in Ireland.
- An Irish passport allows you access to any of the Member States of the
European Union. You can live and work in any member State. As an increasing number
of North American and Australasian companies conduct business in the European Union an
Irish passport would allow you to live and work in any of these members states (soon to be
increased to include many of the Eastern European States)
- You can retire to Ireland where medical costs are a fraction of the cost in most other
counties.
- Dual Citizenship allows you to be proud of your Irish past while acknowledging your own
native born allegiances.
